Considered "one of the most talented
musicians of Brasilia" (Musica em Brasilia), Alvaro Henrique has been
establishing himself on the Brazilian musical scene for the quality of the
repertoire he presents and a wide range of activities which includes teaching,
promoting musical events, writing articles and promoting classical music.
One of the most active musicians in his age
and area, on the past years he has dedicated himself to thematic programs. In 2004
and 2005, performed in Sao Paulo, Brasilia, Fortaleza, Curitiba, Sao Jose do Rio Preto and Tiradentes a program of Sonatas. In 2006, played the Complete
Solo Guitar Works of Heitor Villa-Lobos in Vitória, on the XX Encontro de Violao
e Violonistas Goianos, in Brasilia and Sao Paulo. For 2007 he will present the Complete Guitar Works of Cesar
Guerra-Peixe. Also has prepared special programs, such a spanish music recital
on the Centro Cultural Brasil-Espanha and a avant-garde program for the I and
II Semana de Musica no Museu de Arte Contemporanea.
Alvaro Henrique has been dedicating himself
also to premiere performances. Among the first Brazilian performances he made,
we can list Sighs, by Jorge Antunes (2000) and, among the world premieres, Gegensatz,
by Oliver Thedieck (2000). First recorded John Duarte’s Prelude, Canto and
Toccata (2003), in 2006, of Claudio Santoro’s complete solo guitar works (Fantasia
Sul-America, Dois Preludios and Estudo no. 1), and more recently to Ernest Mahle's Suite for Guitar.
Performed in important events, such as the Seminario
Souza Lima (Sao Paulo), the Festival Tendencias e Tradicoes do SESC Pompeia (Sao
Paulo), the Festival Novos Talentos do Centro Cultural Sao Paulo, the Festival
de Violao Dilermando Reis (Guaratingueta - SP), the Festival de Violao de Sao
Jose do Rio Preto (SP), the XX Encontro de Violao e Violonistas Goianos (Goiania)
and the III Festival Nacional de Violao do Piaui (Teresina). Other Brazilian
cities he played includes Porto Alegre, Santa Maria (RS), Curitiba, Sao Carlos (SP), Santos (SP), Petropolis (RJ), Vitoria, Tiradentes (MG), Brasilia, Campo Grande and Fortaleza.
He also
performed abroad, in Athens (Greece), Dublin (Ireland) and Munich (Germany). Has also worked with orchestras, such as the Orquestra Preludio
(director: Julio Medaglia). Gave a residency program on the Centro Cultural
Banco do Nordeste, in Fortaleza. Has gave masterclasses in several ocasions, such as in some events
listed above.
Was awarded on the guitar competitions Souza
Lima, Musicalis, Dilermando Reis and Jodacil Damaceno. Was a finalist of the Orquestra Sinfonica da
Bahia’s Concurso Jovens Solistas. Won, on the Classical
Music category, the Premio Nascente, given to the new talents on the field
of literature, dance, arts, music and design.
To promoting the guitar and the classical
music, has gone to several radio and TV shows, and wrote for the specialized
magazines and websites. Alvaro Henrique is president of BRAVIO (Brasilia Guitar
Association), a nonprofit organization that makes monthly guitar events.
